Library Wines from The 1970s
Where Cabernet is concerned, the 1970s can best be remembered as a period of technical innovation. The large-scale adoption of stainless steel fermentation, winery sanitation and filtration meant that wines were produced with purity and fruit preservation as an essential component of quality. French oak barrels also hit the scene; previously, redwood and American oak barrels were the norm for Cabernet aging. Here at Freemark Abbey, we began to pay more attention to the individual terroir of our vineyard sites, and introduced our first vineyard-designate bottling: Bosché Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon.
